In an independent solar power generation system, in order to reduce costs, improve efficiency and reliability, it is necessary to make the photovoltaic cells output maximum power, make the battery charge and discharge correctly, and at the same time make maximum use of the generated energy. Therefore, when we choose the charging method, we should comprehensively consider various factors and use occasions to design a PWM controller with excellent performance for charging.

Design of charging circuit

The switch tube (chopper tube) of charging control selects POWER MOFFETIRF4905. This tube is a P-channel MOFFET tube with small on-resistance, RON=20mΩ, maximum on-state current ID=74A (conditional temperature 25℃, VGS=-10V), fast switching speed and good switching performance. When the gate-source voltage of this tube is VGS<-8.0V, this tube has good switching performance as a switch tube. And because this tube is a P-channel, it is easy to select the reference voltage at a point, and the reliability of the system will be greatly improved. MBR2060 is a Schottky diode with a forward voltage drop of 0.3V and a maximum on-current of 20A, which fully meets the system requirements. The function of this diode is to prevent reverse charging, that is, when the voltage of the battery is higher than the voltage of the solar cell, the diode is cut off, preventing the reverse charging of the battery to the solar cell.

PWM charging subroutine flow

The pulse width modulation subroutine completes the charging of the solar cell to the battery by pulse width modulation. The controller controls the solar cell to charge the battery during the day according to the state of charge of the battery. The purpose is to improve the charging effect, protect the battery and prevent the battery from being overcharged.
